The research group “Solid concentration and biorecovery” was funded in 1988.
Initially, this group was focused on the research of solid treatment, mainly minerals, flotation and studies of solid-liquid-gas interphases. Later, it started to work in a new research line that focused on heavy metals removal from aqueous environments through biosorption, using agricultural waste as biosorbents. Nowadays research still is focused on these aspects where the group has become a referent to international level. In parallel, a new area of research is being developed related to energetic valorization of waste, completing a process of redirection of the group toward valorization of solid waste from various perspectives.
