This research group was formed in 1988. Initially, its research was based exclusively on the treatment of solids, fundamentally minerals, flotation and studies of solid-liquid-gas interphases. Later, the group's research activity became broader and incorporated a new research line to study the removal of heavy metals present in aqueous media by means of biosorption, using mainly agricultural waste as solid sorbents. This additional research line has resulted in the group to be an international referent. Now, a new parallel topic related to energetic use of waste is being developing in order to study the explotation of solid waste, from different perspectives.
